Glass making industry was the second most prominent industry, beside mining that started in 1755 in Zagorje. Mining began to wane near the end of the 20th century, with the closing of the Zagorje mine; in 2013 the last mine in Hrastnik will close.
The first of two glass factories in Zagorje was built in 1804, followed 20 years later by the one in Trbovlje and another, still active, in Hrastnik in 1860.
Glassworks Hrastnik has a half century long tradition among the major European manufacturers of glass packaging, lighting and glass tableware. Visitors can take three different trails, where manual and automatic production workshops are presented along the decoration floor and other installations. The longest route, which presents both companies and also includes a walk through interesting buildings such as Villa de Seppi, glassworkers’ row house, Rižnerjeva hiša, brodarski dom and glass shop. The longer trail includes both trails and other glass-making sites.
The trail is intended for technical heritage enthusiasts, school groups and any inquisitive minds.
